How to Make Money Selling Pre-owned Clothing on Ebay!!!
When I first started selling on Ebay, I said "No way, would someone want to buy worn or used clothing!" Over the years I've seriously had to eat those words. The turning point came for me when I had a church gathering to attend and they required everyone to wear white. I love suits so decided I would wear a pantsuit. I promptly went shopping for my suit and realized suits are extremely expensive. I called up a friend of mind who has a corporate job and inquired if she owned a white suit. She said she did and agreed to let me borrow it for the occasion. After wearing the suit I dry cleaned it and returned it back to her.
That was when I had my epiphany! Buying pre-owned clothing on Ebay is the exact same thing! For the most part if you buy from a seller like me, who is super picky about the items they sell, you'll be getting a designer quality item, that looks nearly new, for an amazing price and best part is for the price of what you pay at the department store for one dress, on Ebay you could buy several dresses. So here's a few tips i hope will be helpful on how to make lots of money selling pre-owned clothing on Ebay:
* Shop at you local thrift stores, garage sales & get gently used items from friends and family ~ strive to sell items that look brand new or barely worn, if an item is questionable, do not buy it.
* Shop your thrift stores on half off days, when possible, negotiate at all garage sells and tell all your friends and family about your new business venture. I'm sure they will be more than willing to clean out their closets with items they no longer wear.
*Take quality pictures, try and use a service to host your pictures so potential buyers can see the garment enlarged and really see what their getting.
*Include measurements, because all designers are different.
* Include color, size, fabric, garment care any enclosures or pockets the item might have ~ just be descriptive as possible ~ also encourage buyers to ask questions and answer all questions promptly.
* Its a good idea to auction items at first, because on Ebay you just never know. A simple dress or skirt may draw way more then you ever expected. Now after 1 or 2 times putting your item up for auction and it still doesn't sell, then open up an Ebay store and start putting items in your store for 30 days or good until cancelled for much less than auction insertion fees every week.
* Set a reasonable price, if people wanted to pay department store prices they wouldn't be shopping on Ebay. But at the same time, if you have a quality item or paid a certain amount for an item, then price it where you can make a profit after Ebay & Paypal has taken their fees out.
*You must have a scale when determining the weight of your item!!! Do not guess at the weight of an item, it could end up costing you money. Buy a cheap inexpensive scale from a seller on Ebay. Make sure to know how much your item will weigh once its packaged in a box or shipping bag.
*Another money saving tip is to ship lightweight clothing in poly mailing bags you can purchase on Ebay (I buy mine from threerb, they have excellent products and very fast shipping). Remember anything 13oz or under can be shipped USPS first class. For items over 13oz go with USPS Priority, they offer free shipping supplies at the post office or on their website.
* Another important part is fast shipping, try to ship items within 24 hours of receiving payment. Buyers feel much more secure when they see their item has been shipped in a timely manner. Also, use Ebay shipping or Paypal shipping. When using either one of these methods the buyer receives an email with a tracking number stating their item has been shipped.
* If you have lots of items to ship consider using Paypal Multiorder Shipping. This tool will pull up all your Ebay items waiting to be shipped. You may need you to input the type of shipping your using (i.e. USPS priority or USPS first class and the weight, but most of the time this information is pre-filled with the information from your listing) and with the click of a button you can print 50 labels at once. I promise, this will save you lots of time!
Well, I hope you found this guide helpful. I'm always looking to help someone new to Ebay looking to make some extra money or in some cases making a living by selling on Ebay. There's enough for everybody :)!
